Urgent Care

Wait times vary depending on the number and severity of patients being seen. The staff is limited in the amount of medical advice or information that can be provided over the phone due to patient census and staff availability. Patients are, however, encouraged to call during periods of clinic closure such as weekends, holidays or after hours if they have new onset non-life threatening concerns. We are not able to provide telephone consultation for chronic follow-up questions or requests and the patient will be directed to contact their primary care manager during normal business hours. If you present with a condition that cannot be treated at Urgent Care, you will be transferred to one of the local Japanese host nation hospitals. Common Conditions Requiring Treatment in the Urgent Care include: sudden dizziness, weakness, or changes in vision; thoughts of harming yourself or others; uncontrolled bleeding; sudden or severe pain; severe dehydration; deep lacerations; bone fractures; difficulty breathing; head injuries; poisoning; and chest pain.

A medical emergency is sudden and unexpected onset of a medical condition that is threatening to life, limb or eyesight; requires immediate medical treatment; or, manifests painful symptoms that require immediate response to ease suffering. Unlike a medical emergency, conditions that need only urgent care are those that do not threaten a patient’s life, limb or eyesight, or leave the patient in intolerable pain for an extended period. An individual may seek urgent care in situations where a condition or injury may become a serious to risk their health if left untreated.

For urgent care at Misawa Air Base, call your primary care clinic and ask if there are same-day appointments available with your provider team. Come to the Urgent Care if there are no same-day appointments available.

For urgent care while traveling in the United States, Alaska or Hawaii, you may call the Nurse Advise Line to talk to a Registered Nurse, get health care advice, ask urgent care questions, get help finding a doctor or get a recommendation for care. It is recommended that Department of Defense patients seek urgent care at the nearest military treatment facility first whenever possible.
